Description

Cheeseburger Pie is a delicious and easy-to-make savory pie that combines the flavors of a classic cheeseburger in a comforting baked dish. Ground beef and onions are cooked and seasoned, layered with shredded cheddar cheese, and topped with a Bisquick-based batter before baking to golden perfection. Perfect for a family meal or casual dinner, it’s ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped

Seasonings and Sauces

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup ketchup

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Batter

  • 1/2 cup Bisquick
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs

Other

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish or a similar baking pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the beef and onions: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 7 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the pan.
  3. Season and mix: Season the cooked beef and onion mixture with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir in the ketchup until the mixture is evenly coated. Spread this beef mixture evenly into the prepared pie dish.
  4. Add the cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef layer in the pie dish.
  5. Prepare the batter: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the Bisquick, milk, and eggs until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  6. Pour batter over pie: Slowly pour the batter over the beef and cheese layers, ensuring it fully covers the surface evenly.
  7. Bake the pie: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set. Check doneness by inserting a knife into the center; it should come out clean.
  8. Cool and serve: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, optionally topped with a drizzle of ketchup and pickles on the side.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • For extra flavor, add diced pickles or mustard into the beef mixture.
  • If Bisquick is not available, you can use an equal amount of self-rising flour as a substitute.
  • To make it spicier, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder to the beef mixture.
  • This pie pairs well with a fresh green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
