Description

Christmas Puppy Chow is a festive and delicious snack mix featuring chocolate, peanut butter, and crunchy rice Chex cereal coated in confectioners sugar and sprinkled with holiday M&M’s. Perfect for holiday parties or a sweet treat any time during the season.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ⅓ cup butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Cereal Mix

  • 9 cups rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1 cup holiday M&M’s

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate mixture: Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and creamy peanut butter to a large, microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each until the mixture is smooth and the chocolate has melted. Stir in the melted butter and vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. Coat the cereal: Pour the rice Chex cereal into the chocolate mixture. Gently toss to coat all the cereal pieces evenly, taking care not to break the cereal.
  3. Sugar coating: Transfer the coated cereal into a large zip-top bag. Add the confectioners sugar, seal the bag, and gently shake to thoroughly coat the cereal in the sugar. If necessary, divide into batches to fit your bags.
  4. Add holiday candy: Pour the coated cereal into a serving bowl and mix in the holiday M&M’s. Serve immediately or store for later enjoyment.

Notes

  • Do not feed this treat to dogs, it is for human consumption only.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for up to one week.
  • For best taste, enjoy cold straight from the refrigerator.
  • You can use different kinds of chocolate chips or peanut butter to vary the flavor.
  • If you want to make a larger batch, simply scale ingredients proportionally.
