Description

Crispy and tangy Air Fryer Fried Dill Pickles are a perfect snack or appetizer, featuring crunchy panko coating with a hint of paprika and perfectly cooked in the air fryer for a healthier twist on a classic fried favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

Pickle Prep

  • 16 pickle spears

Breading

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 ½ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper

Finishing

  • Grapeseed oil spray, as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F according to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure even cooking.
  2. Prepare Breading Stations: In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until combined. In a third bowl, mix panko bread crumbs, paprika, salt, and pepper thoroughly.
  3. Dry Pickles: Pat the pickle spears dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture; this helps the breading stick better.
  4. Coat Pickles: Dip each pickle spear first into the flour, covering evenly, then into the egg and milk mixture, and finally coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat for all pickle spears.
  5. Arrange in Basket: Place the coated pickle spears in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd. Work in batches if necessary.
  6. Apply Oil Spray: Lightly spritz the pickles with grapeseed oil spray to promote crisping.
  7. Air Fry: Cook the pickles in the preheated air fryer for 6 minutes. Then flip the spears over and air fry for an additional 6 minutes until golden and crispy.
  8. Serve: Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Be sure to thoroughly dry the pickle spears to prevent soggy breading.
  • Use grapeseed oil or another high smoke point oil spray for best results in the air fryer.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even crisping; cook in batches if needed.
  • Panko breadcrumbs give the crispiest texture but regular breadcrumbs can be used as a substitute.
  • Serve with ranch dressing, spicy mayo, or your favorite dipping sauce for an extra flavor boost.
