Description

Air Fryer Cheesy Tater Tots are homemade crispy, cheesy potato tots made from shredded russet potatoes mixed with sharp cheddar cheese and seasonings, cooked to perfection in an air fryer for a delicious appetizer or snack.

  • 4 medium russet potatoes, washed

Cheese and Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Boil Potatoes: Place the washed russet potatoes into a pot filled with cold salted water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes until a fork pierces the potatoes but they remain firm. Drain and let cool for about 15 minutes until cool to the touch.
  2. Grate Potatoes: Once cooled, grate the potatoes using a box grater or food processor and transfer the grated potatoes into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Mix Ingredients: Add the grated sharp cheddar cheese, all-purpose flour, kosher salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the grated potatoes. Mix thoroughly until well combined into a consistent mixture.
  4. Shape Tater Tots: Lay out a large sheet of parchment paper. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and form it into a cylindrical tater tot shape. Place each formed tot on the parchment paper. Repeat the process for the remaining mixture.
  5. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly spray the basket with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  6. Cook Tater Tots: Arrange the tater tots in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary based on air fryer size. Spray the tops lightly again with oil. Cook for 10 minutes, then flip each tot and cook for an additional 5 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Serve: Remove the crispy cheesy tater tots from the air fryer and serve immediately while hot and delicious.
