Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 35-40 saltine crackers
Toffee Topping
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
Candy Coating
- 2 cups light green candy melts (about 1 12-ounce bag)
- red heart sprinkles
- green sprinkles of choice
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 10 x 15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray for easy cleanup.
- Arrange Crackers: Arrange 35-40 saltine crackers in even rows to fill the bottom of the prepared baking sheet, making sure they fit snugly without overlapping.
- Make Toffee Mixture: In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup unsalted butter and 1 cup packed brown sugar over medium-high heat. Stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture begins to boil. Continue boiling for 3 minutes until the temperature reaches between 270-290 degrees Fahrenheit, creating a rich toffee.
- Pour Toffee Over Crackers: Immediately pour the hot toffee evenly over the saltine crackers. Use a heat-safe spatula to spread the toffee so it covers all the crackers uniformly.
- Bake the Toffee Layer: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes to allow the toffee to set and bubble.
- Add Candy Melts: Remove the pan from the oven and quickly sprinkle 2 cups of light green candy melts evenly over the hot toffee layer. Let rest for 3 minutes so the candy melts soften and melt.
- Spread Candy and Decorate: Use a spatula to spread the melted candy evenly over the toffee. While still soft, sprinkle red heart sprinkles and green sprinkles of your choice over the top for a festive appearance.
- Cool and Serve: Let the candy crack cool completely at room temperature until it hardens, about 1 hour. Once set, break into pieces and serve or package for gifting.
Notes
- Store Grinch Christmas Crack in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days.
- For longer storage, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
- You can also freeze the crack for up to 3 months. Use parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.
- If you don't have a candy thermometer, boil the toffee mixture for a full 3 minutes to ensure proper toffee consistency.
- Customize the sprinkles colors or use edible glitter for extra holiday sparkle.
