Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5-8 oz. each)
- Salt and pepper
- 1/4 cup flour
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
Sauce
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)
Garnish
- Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar until well combined to create the sauce.
- Pound the chicken: Using a meat mallet, pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch to ensure even cooking.
- Season and dredge: Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper, then dredge them in flour, shaking off any excess.
- Sear the chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Place the chicken breasts in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on one side until golden brown.
- Flip chicken: Turn the chicken over and sear for another 1-2 minutes on the other side.
- Sauté garlic: Reduce heat to medium, add the remaining tablespoon of butter, then add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add and simmer sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Let it simmer until the sauce thickens slightly and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF, about 3-5 minutes.
- Optional saucier step: To make the sauce saucier, stir in 1/4 cup chicken broth and simmer briefly to combine.
- Coat and garnish: Turn the chicken to coat both sides evenly in the sauce. Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped parsley or green onions if desired.
- Serve and enjoy: Serve the chicken warm, spooning extra sauce over the top.
Notes
- Use boneless, skinless chicken breasts on the smaller side (5-8 oz. each). For larger breasts, cut 2 breasts in half lengthwise to create 4 cutlets.
- To make the dish saucier, add 1/4 cup chicken broth while simmering the sauce.
- Add a little heat by sprinkling red pepper flakes when sautéing the garlic or adding the sauce.
- Brighten the flavor with a splash of lime or lemon juice added to the sauce before simmering.
- Ensure chicken is cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165ºF for safety and juiciness.
